Hey guys!

anyway, I'm a new member, and I was wondering-

Have you guys had any discussion on Scully? I didn't see her name in the tags, and I just think she's kind of essential to have in a community about female sci-fi discussion.

Hee! I don't think Scully had come up as yet, but I'm glad she now has, because she is AWESOME and fabulous and I love her! :D

Hey, welcome to the community and to LJ!

We definitely haven't discussed Scully recently - in fact, she was Cosmic Cheerleader of the Month in... *looks it up* ... May 2005, so the time is definitely ripe to talk about her again!

She's one of my personal favourite SF&F heroines, so much so that I used to have my hair cut to look like her. I love how smart she is and how sensible - Mulder had brains, but Scully had the common sense to get him out of whatever wacky situation he'd got them into. Plus Gillian Anderson has an excellent line in subtly hilarious facial expressions...

Yeah, not only is Scully a great character, but Gillian Anderson is an AMAZING actress and person in general. I love watching her interviews, because she's so intelligent and eloquent- PLUS her accent changes depending on who she's speaking to. She's english but i think alot of her childhood was in america, so she's got two accents, like John Barrowman.

What's your favorite Scully episode?

I still haven't gotten through all the seasons, but I LOVE 'Beyond the Sea' in Season One. The guest star, Brad Dourif (grima wormtongue in LOTR), is frickin INCREDIBLE and Gillian't acting in that...oh...i have no words. Definitely worth several re-watchings.

Beyond the Sea is brilliant, definitely one of my favourites! For Scully-centric episodes, I also really love Irresistible, although that one is so creepy, and All Souls. Ooh, and Chinga!

Have you got as far as all things yet? It's in Season 7, and is the one Gillian Anderson wrote and directed.

ahh NO actually! I started the series last semester, and then THIS semester i decided to study abroad in france, so right now i've only finished season 2! its KILLING me because i'm the one who got my family onto this show, and everytime i call home, my mom or dad answers, and they're like 'Oh we're just watching X-Files and eating dinner. This show is REALLY good by the way!' and they're just about to start season 9!

i have alot to catch up on!

Ooh, I love all of the episodes carawj mentions, and Beyond the Sea is awesome.

Wow, I'm so excited for you, not having finished watching it yet! You've got some really great stuff coming up. I really like Milagro, although it's creepy in an uncomfortable way, and everything at the end of S4/beginning of S5.

For funny Scully moments, War of the Coprophages is brilliant, as is Hollywood A.D. You'll have to keep us posted on how you're getting on with watching!

Aw, Scully! I miss the days when I was watching X-Files on a regular basis. Scully rocks and Gillian definitely did a great job mixing the serious with the subtle comedy. I loved the scene where she's showing Tea Leoni how to run in heels. :) Great episode.

I haven't gotten to see her in much since X-Files (though I know she's done some interesting stuff), but I've seen her interviewed and she seems like an interesting woman in herself.

Now I want to go re-watch X-Files. And do an X-Files agent costume for the next convention I go to...

Hahaha, that scene cracks me up! That may be one of her funniest bits. That and every one of her reactions to Mulder's story in Bad Blood.

Gillian Anderson is amazing in House of Mirth, but don't watch it on your own and have a cartoon or something ready for afterwards, because it's one of the most depressing things I've ever seen. Ditto her turn in Bleak House.

Welcome to Cosmic Cheerleaders :)

I was never into the X Files, but what little of it I have seen was great :) Scully is a very well written and well played character, a great ambassador for what it means to be a Cosmic Cheerleader :)
